How to Make Notepads with Glue and Paper

I tend to have a lot of extra paper hanging around my studio, so naturally I’m always looking for ways to use it all. Here’s how to make notepads with glue and regular paper, plus I’ll show you how to cover it with cardstock, too.

This is a super easy project and more than one of them can be made at the same time. The one piece of advice that I have for you is that you make sure at least one side as perfectly flush as you can get it.

How to Make a Notepad with Glue and Paper

You’ll need just 4 items to make these:
– A small stack of paper, all cut to the same size
– Printed cardstock of your choice
– Glue (I use Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue)
Binder clips
Metal ruler

Optional Items

Silicone brush, for spreading glue evenly
Carl paper cutter, for cutting paper to precise size

Measure your paper squares. All the pages should be the exact same size for best results.

Mine measured out 3″ x 3-5/16″.

Straighten your paper pile so that at least one side is flush.
Clip your pile on the two sides, leaving the flush side open on the top.

Measure your cardstock the width of your paper by the length x2, + the width of the pile of paper. For example, my measurements would figure like this:
3″ x [(3.3125″ x 2) + .25″]
3″ (w) x 6.875″ (l)

Score the cardstock according to the measurements of your pad’s width.

Apply glue to the flush side of the pile as shown below.

Use a silicone brush or your finger to spread the glue into a thin layer, cover the edge of the pile well. Allow to dry.

Once the pad is dry, apply glue to the inside of the cardstock, between the two score lines.

Gently press the glued side of the pad between the score lines on the cardstock.

Fold the cardstock over the pad. Clip on the sides to let it dry if you wish.

When it’s dry, you should be able to tear off pages the way you would with a store-bought paper pad.

Now that you know how to make notepads with glue and paper, you’ve got the perfect way to use up those paper scraps while creating something both pretty and practical. Try making a few sets as gifts—or tuck them into your junk journals for an extra handmade touch.
